Today and tomorrow the world over, some 1 billion Muslims will be celebrating Eid. This is to mark the end of the wonderful month of Ramadhan. For a whole month Muslim men and women, old and young, rich and poor, went without food only eating after sunset.

In the simple and austere spirit of Islam the celebrations begin with early morning devotion in a large congregation. Then every family makes a special offering for charity. This is exclusively for the poor and needy around the world. The rest of the day is spent partying with family and friends.

Celebrating achievements and recognising good works is an established feature of human civilisation. Joining together on such occasions with fellow citizens multiplies pleasure and the sense of achievement. So I offer you the greeting of Eid Mubarak. God bless you again and again.
